Abraham Rydberg
(later Abraham) Ship (3m). L/B/D: 101 × 22.3 × 11.4 (30.8m × 6.8m × 3.5m). Tons: 149 grt. Hull: wood. Built: D. R. Andersson, Karlshamn, Sweden; 1879.
Built as a training ship for the Abraham Rydberg Foundation and named for her benefactor, a prominent Swedish shipowner, the flush-decked Abraham Rydberg was among the smallest full-rigged ships ever built. Employed in sail training for thiry-two years, she was not replaced until 1911 when a second steel-hulled ship of the same name was built, and the original ship was renamed Abraham. The following year she was sold to A. W. Johannson of Lanna. When Abraham was converted for merchant use, the cadet accommodations were removed, increasing her tonnage to 158; in 1917 her tonnage increased again to 168. Between 1926 and 1930 she changed hands three times. Her last owner, H. Palssn of Fortuna, installed an auxiliary engine, and she may have been cut down to a topsail schooner. Abraham was hulked at Hälsö in 1935.
